Tony Dinning

Tony Dinning Midfield

Born   Wallsend
Date of Birth 12.4.1975

5ft 11"

Hugely experienced midfielder who joined the Pitmen from Chester City in July 2009

A Wallsend boy, the same as Paul Gascoigne, Dinning joined his local side Newcastle United as a trainee, but failed to turn out for the Magpies first team after signing as a professional in 1993. He was released in the summer of 1994, where he moved to Stockport County; it was at Edgeley Park where Dinning made his name, making over 180 appearances for Stockport in six years. His form attracted interest from clubs higher up, and it was little surprise when Championship side Wolves signed him for 700,000 in the summer of 2000. However, he failed to replicate his Stockport from at Molineux and was loaned to Wigan Athletic at the start of the 2001-2002 season

He was quickly snapped up by the Latics in a 750,000 move, where his form returned, playing in nearly 100 games for the club. In over three years at the club, he was also loaned out a number of times, with short spells at Stoke City, Walsall, Blackpool, Ipswich Town and Bristol City. It was Bristol City who eventually signed him on a free transfer in the summer of 2004, but the following season saw him make only ten starts at Ashton Gate

He was loaned to Port Vale towards the end of the 2004-2005 season, and turned it into a permanent move in the summer. He was awarded the captaincy at Vale Park, where he enjoyed an ever-present 2005-2006 season. Old employers Stockport came calling during the summer of 2006, with the offer of a coaching role thrown in. He made an emotional return to Edgeley Park, making over thirty appearances during 2006-2007, and was described by manager Jim Gannon as a 'born leader'

He left Stockport in the summer of 2007, and joined League Two strugglers Chester City. After a good start at the Deva Stadium, he fell out of favour, and became embroiled in the club's financial problems. He was loaned to Blue Square Premier Grays Athletic for a short spell, immediately followed by a sentimental move home to Gateshead, where he helped them qualify for the Blue Square North play-offs in his two appearances

His signing represents a real coup for Dean Edwards and Hednesford Town, in being able to attract a player of such experience and quality to play at Zamaretto League level
