Experienced forward player who joined the Pitmen from local rivals Chasetown in September 2011 A journeyman striker in Midlands non-league football, hay has chalked up almost every senior club in the local area when it comes to the semi-pro game. After starting out at amateur sides Fairfield Villa and Paget Rangers, he joined local side Alvechurch, where he scored twenty three goals in his first season. After a spell there, he stepped up to join Willenhall Town in February 2002, where his goalscoring continued to impress. However, injury struck him down for the whole of the Lockmen's 2003-2004 season After another successful stint in front of goal on 2004-2005, he moved up the leagues to join Southern Premier League side Halesowen Town in May 2005. However, he was limited to four substitute appearances for the Yeltz before rejoining Willenhall in August 2005. His scoring touch returned, and under the guidance of Mel Eves and one-day Hednesford manager Dean Edwards, plundered eleven goals in twenty three starts. This soon brought him to the attention of bigger sides, with AFC Telford coming in for him in February 2006. Despite initially turning the Bucks down, Willenhall eventually let their star man move to Telford, where he made fifteen appearances at the end of the 2005-2006 season and the start of the 2006-2007 season In October 2006, he was on the move again, this time to Bromsgrove Rovers. His goalscoring form for Rovers attracted the interest of local rivals, Conference National side Kidderminster Harriers. He joined Harriers on non-contract terms in February 2007, but failed to impress and was released towards the end of the season Rejoined Bromsgrove in May 2007, playing against Willenhall in the final game of the season. His previous purple patch at the Victoria Ground could not be matched, and by Christmas 2007, he had joined Southern League Midlands side Evesham United. His stay at Evesham coincided with the Robins' best ever F.A. Cup run, as they made it through to the first round proper, but lost the Blue Square Premier side Torquay United His final few months there saw him in and out of the side, with a one-match loan spell at Bromsgrove thrown in for good measure. He joined Blue square North side Redditch in March 2009, scoring on his debut against Harrogate Town, before signing UniBond forms with the Pitmen later in the month. In a twist to the transfer, Hay was allowed to continue to play for Redditch, but if Hednesford required his services, could bring him back from the Valley Stadium. This eventuality never came about, with Hay agreeing a new deal with United for the 2009-2010 season. His stay at the Valley Stadium came to an end with a move to Chasetown just before Christmas 2009, helping the Scholars to promotion to the Northern Premier League at the end of the season. He was part of the Chasetown side that made progress to the quarter finals of the F.A. trophy in 2010-2011, with Mansfield eventually ending the run Joined the Pitmen during the early stages of the 2011-2012 season and made a spectacular start to life at Keys Park, scoring in his first two games against Matlock and former employers Redditch, before grabbing the winner in the F.A. Trophy tie at Bedworth United |
