Much-traveled forward who joined the Pitmen from UniBond Premier League side Buxton in January 2010

Once regarded as one of the brightest young talents in English football, Proffitt worked his way through the ranks at Premiership side Manchester City, and was picked for England at Under 17 (10 appearances), Under 18 (6 appearances), Under 19 (6 appearances) and Under 20 levels - lining up alongside a number of future stars at the 2003 U19 European Championship. He also replaced a certain Wayne Rooney whilst with the U17s, coming on for the future Manchester United and England superstar in games against Brazil and Spain

Despite his obvious talent, he failed to break into City's first team, and was loaned out to Championship side Coventry City in February 2004. He was a regular for the Sky Blues reserve side during his stay at Highfield Road, but failed to make a first team appearance

Released by City in the summer of 2005, he trialled for a number of clubs during the summer, including Millwall, Burnley and Oldham Athletic

After failing to strike a  deal with a league club, he made what was to be first of two spells at Leek Town, but after a short spell joined Southern League Crawley Town. After two cup appearances for Crawley, he was released, moving to Hinckley United until the end of the 2005-2006 season

Rejoined Leek in the summer of 2006, where he enjoyed a consistent spell before joining Cheshire outfit Witton Albion in February 2007. Before he even made his debut for Witton, he was farmed out on loan to Newcastle Town in an attempt to get him fit

Failed to impress at Wincham Park, and was released by manager Jim Vince in October 2007, allowing him to join local rivals Alsager Town. A successful spell at Alsager saw him come to the attention of FC Halifax Town, who signed him on the eve of the 2008-2009 season. However, four games into the new season, he was allowed to rejoin Witton

Once again, his stay was brief - six games - before Stafford Rangers snapped him up in October 2008. His spell at Rangers was a brief one, as he was allowed to join Newcastle Town again in February 2009, playing there until the end of the season

He trialled for Blue Square Premier side barrow in July 2009 after leaving Newcastle, playing in a friendly against former club Witton. After failing to earn a contract at Barrow, he joined joined Buxton, where he was used mainly as a substitute before joining Bernard McNally's Pitmen

His form and versatility earned him a new deal with the club, with Proffitt signed up for the 2010-2011 season
